| Name: Karasu Kobayashi Birth Name: Ravyn DeLevain Nickname: Morrigan (a reference to Celtic mythology), Ravey (by her cousin), Kara True Name: Trusted Sacrifice Partner: Robyn Diaz-Sakamoto Birthday: November 5 Age: 24 Gender: Intersex/Androgyne (see "Health and Gender" below) Occupation: Computer analyst/Club Owner Appearance: (5'6", healthy body type) Her waist-length hair is black, as are most of her clothes. Her eyes are violet, and she wears contacts, since she's sick of her glasses getting in the way. She likes to dress in an androgynous fashion, making no complaint if she's mistaken for a guy. After all, she dresses as one most of the time. She wears black lipstick to hide the mark written across her lower lip. Sarcastic, pessimistic, and a bit arrogant, she tends to push people away. She has MAJOR trust issues. She has a completely different attitude toward her few friends, becoming kind, loyal, and witty. She will take your secrets (and her own) to her grave. American-born, she speaks both English and Latin fluently. She refuses to speak of her past, saying "I'm here now. That's all that matters." She inherited an apartment complex from her great-grandmother Suzume (family name: Kobayashi), which is why she moved to Japan instead of England (where she actually wanted to go). - The following is the part of her history she refuses to admit to, beginning with her family history:
In 1951, Kobayashi Sadao (age 53) died of what is now known to be prostate cancer, leaving his wife, Suzume (age 37), alone to care for their only child, a 15-year-old boy by the name of Toshiaki. In order to properly raise her son, Suzume begged her father to sell her an apartment complex his real estate company had recently seized from a bankrupt competitor with plans to raize the building and create a mall. Reluctantly, her father agreed to her request, funding repairs to the humble old building. Thus it came to pass that Kousei Apartments opened in 1953, with the calming presence of Suzume as the landlady. When it came time for her son to choose a university to attend, however, Toshiaki decided he wanted to study abroad and left for America, where he met Susan Johansen and married her. Their daughter, Alice, would marry Eric DeLevain in the winter of 1985 and give birth to Ravyn DeLevain five years later in November, 1990.
And this is where things get interesting...
Ravyn's parents doted on their child, often boasting about her incredibly adept young mind. They did not mistreat her, and they certainly never neglected her. They were simply a normal family...And, as with every other family, the parents hid things from the child. Alice and Eric had both earned their degrees in Classical Civilizations, Eric specializing in weaponry, Alice in linguistics. That being said, both were fluent in Latin. This was the language they chose to speak when they did not want Ravyn to know what they were talking about. But children learn quickly. By the third grade, Ravyn could piece together the majority of her parents' sub rosa conversations and, unlike most children, saw the divorce coming long before the papers were ever drawn up. Alice and Eric divorced in the summer of 1999. When they started to explain to their young daughter, Ravyn screamed a single word at them: Scivero ("I have known.") Her parents were shocked, watching as their daughter burst into tears and begged them to tell her why they didn't trust her.
Skip ahead three years to find a young girl, age 12, dressed in a purple dress to attend Easter Sunday at her father's church. Ravyn hasn't told Eric about it, yet, and she is pretty certain that telling her father she's an atheist in the middle of Mass isn't such a wise idea. Closing her eyes, she listens to the echoing "Kyrie eleison...Christie eleison" refrain, going through the motions as she had been taught from such a young age.
Skip another two years to find a 14-year-old "goth princess," walking through the halls of her high school. Only a freshman, she owns the place. These people are her friends, allies. She is liked by the majority of them, granting a select few her trust...
By the end of this year, she will be alone. A single secret will fly from the mouth of the one she trusts most, to the ears of another, soon filling the school with the clamorous word: "WITCH."
The name appeared in the summer of 2004, written like a brand across her bottom lip. Her curse, her agony...her pride. She is TRUSTED. And she was a fighter...for a time. After her name appeared, Ravyn began training on her own, learning from her mistakes which spells were effective and why, what made her stronger or weaker in battle, how to defend herself, and everything else she figured she would need to know to be an effective fighter. Unfortunately, though, the fighting style she ended up with clashed with her personality: her spells were manipulative, deceptive and involve betrayal of trust. Because of this, she decided that she, as a person, was different than she was as a fighter. This decision caused her to start using another name during battles. The name she chose came from Celtic mythology: Morrigan, the Raven Goddess, most well-known as a deity of war and death. To her, "defeat" is relative. Her only intent in battle is to test the bond between her opponents. Kara (right) and Mama (left) Since then, Ravyn moved to Japan. Her sacrifice, an ex-boyfriend she did not trust, followed her, only to die the day after his arrival. After this traumatic event, Ravyn changed her name, taking the name her grandmother had given her as a child. She sold her apartment complex, and went into hiding. Because, the moment he died, something in her changed. She found that she could no longer use the word spells she'd once used. She was no longer a Fighter...yet she still bore the name. The official theory is that she became a wild fighter at the time of her sacrifice's death. But that's nowhere near the truth. No, she became a Sacrifice. Rogue, but no real threat to anyone, as long as they left her alone. Hiding in the shadows, she managed to suppress her ring enough to be able to live a 'normal' life. She learned how to use several types of guns, and has a few weapons registered in her name, just in case her past comes back to bite her in the ass. She completed her degree, and now works as a computer analyst for a major computer corporation. Having finally found her Fighter, Kara is looking forward to a new beginning. Little does she know just how much her life is about to change yet again. These are optional fields. If there are other fields not listed below, you may add them. Likes: music, dancing, black & purple, computer-related anything Dislikes: kids, abusive sacrifices, bullies in general, being called "untrustworthy" - Karasu wearing men's clothing:
Other: She is a complete computer freak. She will rarely be seen without her laptop and iPod. - Fighting Style:
Morrigan's fighting style was similar to the fighting style used by the BLOODLESS pair in the manga, in that she never used spells that would physically harm her opponent, instead dragging them into an illusion created by their own mind (i.e., she didn't completely control the illusion. She could only steer the mood toward her intent). However there were several differences, not the least of which was that she didn't target their fears and weaknesses. She simply probed them for information, slowly "earning their trust" through benign questions until she started asking after their secrets, both good and bad. Just as with BLOODLESS, only the target of her spells had the power to break the illusion. To do so, they had to remember that they trust their fighter/sacrifice more than they trust the illusion that Morrigan used to get them to reveal things they would not usually talk about. Also, her five years of training as a fighter gave her the insight she needed to be able to keep anyone but herself and her target from seeing the illusion. (She did this because she couldn't bring herself to trick someone into revealing their secrets against their will, but she hadn't found out how to keep from seeing it herself.)
The spells themselves were often not recognized until (and unless) they began to take effect, mostly because Morrigan's tone remained purely conversational, with the intent behind her words being the only thing that made something she said a spell. (Since she laced the word "Trust" into her sentences whenever it fits, but only half the time did she mean it as a spell.)
When her illusion was broken, Morrigan would ask one final question: Do you trust me? The answer to this question never mattered. The effect was always the same: a restraint would appear over her mouth, making her unable to use any more spells.
Once she was "defeated" and the battle was over, Morrigan would say one last spell: "My lips are sealed." This spell only affected herself, and served a triple purpose. First, it was a sign of respect for her opponent that she would show to even someone she absolutely hates. Second, it was a peace offering, since she does not want to battle them again. Third, it made her completely unable to reveal the secrets she has learned.
- Health and Gender:
Kara suffers from severe congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) due to a deficiency in an enzyme called 21-hydroxylase. This condition has caused many issues with her health, as her body naturally produces too many androgens and too little cortisol and aldosterone. The reduced aldosterone has caused something called "salt-wasting" wherein an excessive amount of sodium is passed in the urine, which negatively impacts her blood volume and blood pressure. She was hospitalized for this several times as a child before her doctors and parents put her on a permanent high-sodium diet to prevent future episodes.
Thankfully, she was diagnosed within 48 hours of birth due to another, much more noticeable effect of the condition. The increased amount of androgens she was exposed to in utero caused what is called "ambiguous genitalia" and virilization. She is between stages 2 and 3 on the Prader Scale (you can look it up for yourself). The doctors performed a series of tests, coming back with the diagnosis as quickly as the lab could get the tests completed. With this diagnosis in hand, her parents were informed of the possible health risks and complications their child would face and forewarned of the threat of salt-wasting. They were given the option to put the infant through "sex assignment" surgery and raise her as a boy (because that would be the easiest "fix" for the surgeon involved), but they opted to raise her in a gender-neutral manner and let the choice be hers later on.
Today, Kara is on several medications, including glucocorticoids and estrogen supplements. She has opted not to have "sex assignment" surgery, after doing research and learning about the likelihood of nerve damage, and instead has had a hysterectomy and oophorectomy (removal of her ovaries). This decision was made after she learned exactly how her genitals had formed and that she was most likely infertile to begin with.
Because of all of this, Kara has grown into a gender identity that is neither male, nor female. She identifies as an androgyne, which, as she is intersex, makes her cisgendered.

Stealing shall merit a lifetime of being chased by rainbow unicorn tanks and visions of the most horrific gut-wrenching nude dancing you will ever encounter...same goes for modifying it without permission (outside of the information fields).
