Window Gazing and Light Watching Empty
PostSubject: Window Gazing and Light Watching   Window Gazing and Light Watching EmptyThu Dec 05, 2013 11:02 pm

Christmas was soon. The number of days could be counted using both hands and one foot. He had heard stories, back in Seven Moons, of what Christmas was like around the world. The Americans celebrated it much like ringing in the New Year - giving gifts and eating feasts and surrounded by their families... In Austria, there was supposedly a companion to Santa Claus whose name was "Krampus". He came on the fifth of December and rang a bell loudly to scare the naughty children into being good. But in Japan, Christmas Eve was a night for lovers. It was almost impossible to make reservations unless one did so months in advance, and the gifts exchanged were usually only done so between the two that made up the pair. Naoki had already bought the large present he would give Daisuke, but they had always tended to give each other more than one gift on the holiday, so now he needed something else. It was why he found himself wandering down the various wings in the mall, his fighter by his side, oohing and aahing at the blue-white lights that hung from the ceiling. He wasn't sure if Daisuke had already bought his presents or not, but it gave the slightly older young man the perfect opportunity to do so if he hadn't yet. So far, nothing had been bought from either one of them.

The Christmas lights were pretty. Each wing had decorated differently, one with large baubles hanging like snowflakes above their heads, one with an all blueish whitish aurora running it's length, and one with large bells every twenty or so feet, tinkling music filling the air. And that was only three - they still had two more to go. The fountain where each corridor converged was lit from floor to point in ways that almost didn't even make sense to Nao. Everywhere, people were in awe of the grandeur.

Naoki was blank.

His eyes failed to grow wide with each new hallway, every new sight and sound that had others smiling and pointing and taking pictures. His hand wasn't linked with Daisuke's, as it normally was, and that simple lack of touch left the younger completely empty, unable to feel the joy of the others around him. But they were in public, and that was to be expected. Still, he could feel how his fighter stood very close, as close as possible without actually rubbing against him. With his peripherals, he could see how Dai's eyes shone with excitement, the various happy emotions running across his face as he took in everything new. He was handsome, in a way that would have made Naoki protective had he been able to feel it at all. And he was much too friendly for his own good. Still, in Nao's mind, there wasn't a fault to be found in his fighter.

They passed a store with tall, headless mannequins that sported different "winter style" outfits, and one in particular caught his eye. Dark washed jeans with a light brown leather belt, and a grey sweater that looked so soft, like cashmere. He knew it would look nice on Dai, because everything did. And the sweater seemed like something he would want to wear... "Do you want to go in here?" he asked quietly, stopping at the window in order to look at the other outfits the mannequins wore.

these are the various mall decorations:

Daisuke stopped to look at Naoki before looking at the clothes. The styles were similar to his own. Looking back at Naoki, he shrugged. "We can if you like." His smile melted into a grin, gesturing toward the doors.

He liked shopping with Naoki. Really he liked doing anything with his sacrifice, but being out in public, with the excitement of the holidays practically tangible in the air. Couples laughing, friends shopping together, the very air was sweet, and Daisuke followed his sacrifice into the store.

Nodding at the woman who greeted them, he began to look around. He already had one gift for Naoki, but he wanted another. Because giving only one after all their years together just didn't seem right.

"Are you looking for anything in particular?" Daisuke waved his hand dismissively, giving the woman a warm smile.

"No, we're just browsing, but thank you."

With a quick nod, Nao swept past his fighter and into the wide, open area that worked as the entrance. The women's clothes were on the left of the store, all delicate looking, more pretty than useful. The sweaters were lightweight material, and some even had premade holes in the designs, just like the jeans. If he could have felt it, Naoki figured he would have been a little offended on their part. It was winter outside, after all. As it stood, however, the young man did nothing but turn to the right side of the store, fully ignoring the "peppy" (was that the right word? He wasn't very good at this) young woman who offered assistance. The clothes over here were much better quality, and actually served their purpose of keeping the wearer warm.

The different mannequins around the store showed a wide arrange of outfits, and Naoki passed by each one, blue eyes quickly glancing up or down before he wrote it off, moving onto the next. Finally, he saw something that he could actually picture Daisuke wearing. A light tan colored button up sweater, with two dark green stripes banding around the upper right sleeve. Inspecting carefully, Nao selected one from the rack behind the mannequin and offered it to his fighter. Connecting their eyes for the first time since walking into the store, he stated evenly "This would look good on you." There was no intonation to his voice, really, just a bland statement, but he knew that Dai would know he was curious to see the older in the clothing article. Naoki himself couldn't feel that curiosity, but he knew from the years of holding Dai's hand that that's what he would have normally felt, if he were like everyone else. If their name didn't describe him perfectly. Hollow.

Daisuke turned to look at his sacrifice at the declaration, his lips twitching into a smile as he eyed the sweater. He liked it, and his hand casually brushed over Naoki's while he eyed it. It was easier for him to feel emotions than it was for Naoki. And even if sometimes being the epitome of their namesake was a good thing, there were some moments that Daisuke didn't want his sacrifice missing out on.

Like this one.

"Do you think so?" It was a rhetorical question, since Daisuke knew that Naoki wouldn't have said anything if he thought otherwise. His eyes moved from the sweater to meet Naoki's, his smile softer now than it would be with anyone else.

"Should I try it on?"

Even when he could feel the emotions he was usually missing, Naoki had never been a big fan of shopping. He tended to get the basics of things that they needed at the apartment, and get the hell out as quickly as possible. Honestly, Christmas was no different. If he could have felt excitement at seeing Daisuke try on something he picked out, or joviality that seemed to fill the air, maybe he could have been different. His lack of emotion had come with many other side effects, one of which was coldness.

Thankfully, he knew how to mask that coldness well by now. Even though Daisuke could see right through the facade, others couldn't. So the sacrifice plastered a serene sort of smile onto his face and nodded. "Yeah, you should." the false grin didn't quite reach his eyes, but it was passing, at least. It would have been sincere, had he the ability to understand that warm feeling in his chest when his fighter smiled at him. No, perhaps "understand" wasn't quite the correct word. He knew that the warmth was "love", because it all but stabbed through his body whenever his skin met Dai's. Even a quick brush of their arms left the young man reeling with the ghost of feelings. Perhaps if he were normal, if he had lived with the onslaught of emotions his entire life, like everyone else did... Maybe then he would have been happy just to be picking out prospective gifts with his lover. As it was, he wasn't unhappy by any means; he just... couldn't be described as happy, either.

"Let's make chocolates on Christmas Eve." he heard the words leave his mouth before he realized he had even thought them. "Like on Valentines and White Day. And drink mint hot chocolate."

It was something he had hated the moment Daisuke was old enough to recognize it. The fake smile, the one his sacrifice wore to appear normal in a world that could be so cruel to those who were different. Daisuke nodded, going along with the act for now. But his smile wasn't as bright, the guilt eating a hole into his chest. The pain was almost there, the guilt almost solid enough to make him want to hold onto Naoki's hand for the rest of their lives and never let go.

Daisuke had never been able to ask his sacrifice if he hated not being able to feel anything. If when the time came and their skin brushed, if all the emotions from that moment came flooding in, or was it the backlash from the entire day? Did Naoki's chest ache as his did from the longing for something more? For something to make the feelings themselves feel complete? Daisuke didn't know. And he was much too afraid to ask.

He led them back into the changing rooms, his smile returning when he found them empty of both patrons and employees.

"Come on. Help me try this on." Daisuke took his sacrifice's hand, gently guiding him into the small changing room. His grip was firm enough for them both to feel the onslaught of emotions again, and gods how wonderfully perfect it felt, but still loose enough that Naoki could pull away if he wanted to. Daisuke knew that his sacrifice wasn't one for public displays of affection. But that was what was so great about being alone in a dressing room. There was no one around to notice or see them.

When Daisuke grabbed his hand, Naoki was pretty sure the way the world tilted on it's side wasn't normal. Apprehension, curiosity, lust, reluctance, excitement... they all dueled within his chest, suddenly as sharp and crisp as a papercut. Still, he toddled along as his fighter dragged him into the dressing room stall, head trying desperately to make sense of the feelings it was suddenly full of. This was probably both the best and worst part of their bond - it never got any easier to feel things again, no matter how many times (or how gently) Dai touched him.

Blinking away the slight dizziness that accompanied the emotions, Naoki shook his head. "You don't need help changing." he commented with an arched brow, flicking blue eyes toward green. "You're just feeling mischievous." Although they hadn't really spoken about it at great length, he knew that the fighter felt a little bit of what he felt... or rather, didn't feel. Daisuke experienced emotions, but they were always at arms length. Naoki could see it in the way his carefree smile hid some things, or wasn't as bright as the grins of those who returned the gesture. Honestly, Naoki didn't know if that was because of his past and the loss of his parents, or if it was linked to their true name.

Either way, it didn't stop him from slipping his free hand under the hem of the taller man's shirt. "Don't take advantage of me in public." he murmured, pressing his fingertips to the small of Daisuke's back in order to force him closer. "Just kisses won't hurt, but nothing else. Not here." It was a strict rule of his, ever since they got caught once in the boy's bathroom back at Seven Moons.

Window Gazing and Light Watching Empty
PostSubject: Re: Window Gazing and Light Watching   Window Gazing and Light Watching EmptySun Aug 17, 2014 10:57 pm

It was like a breath of fresh air. Like the weight upon his chest had finally been removed and he could just breathe. Daisuke chose one of the bigger rooms at the end of the hallway, where they would be out of sight and out of ear shot if they were quiet. Which, yes, despite Naoki's opinion, Daisuke could be quiet when he wanted to.

Once the door was shut, he hung the sweater on one of the hooks, a shiver running down his spine when he felt Naoki's fingers against the skin of his back. His sacrifice's comment made him chuckle as he released Naoki's hand and shrugged off his jacket, tossing it onto the little bench in the corner.

"God, you get caught once and people never let you forget it." He was teasing of course. They both had been mortified the one day that Daisuke had kept Naoki's attention after swimming practice was over. But who could blame him? His best friend, lover and sacrifice never looked more beautiful than he did when he had just slipped out of the pool. Daisuke couldn't help himself, and they had become so lost in each other that neither one of them had heard their coach approaching. Man, they had gotten into so much trouble. But even so, that day was still one of the memories that Daisuke looked upon with fondness.

"Don't let go." He asked before he pulled the wool sweater over his head. The air in the store was much cooler than the thought, goosebumps rising on his bare skin while he reached for the new sweater hanging on the door. It was hard, to remain focused on the task instead of pinning Naoki to the wall and kissing him senseless. But there would be time enough for that later. After he was clothed again. It took no time to slip the new sweater over his head, the fabirc feeling like silk against his skin despite the fact he knew it was wool.

"Well?" He looked to Naoki, green eyes searching cobalt blue. "What do you think?"
